Revitalized Medvedev Claims Maiden Title in Nearly 30 Months

Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.

The athlete, a former world number one, has had a torrid period, achieving just one match at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in particular - caused him dropping out of the top ten and finally splitting with former mentor his previous coach.

Presently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily improved in the past month - culminating in a closely contested competitive triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents his first title after the Rome competition and first on a hard court since March of 2023.

Success also means Medvedev has won 21 championships at 21 different tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a title is really nice," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, including in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had prompted commentators to wonder if his ability to perform at the elite level was finished.

However the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and compete positively, reinforced by an improved serve.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult opponent, securing four of the final five points to go ahead.

The competitors traded breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial tour title, took control to create a decider.

The opponent saved four early-game opportunities in a tight deciding set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, Medvedev secured victory with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
